Frequently asked questions

How do I download a YouTube transcript?

Paste the video URL above and press Get transcript. You’ll get the full text with timestamps, which you can copy or download as a .txt or .srt file. For one-click transcripts on the watch page itself, install the free Clarion extension.

Is the transcript downloader free?

Yes. The tool is free with no sign-up. There’s a fair-use hourly limit to keep it available for everyone; the Clarion extension removes the limit and works directly on YouTube.

Can I get transcripts with timestamps?

Yes. Toggle “Show timestamps” to see time-coded lines, or download the .srt file to get a subtitle-formatted transcript with start and end times.

Why do some videos have no transcript?

If a creator disabled captions and YouTube couldn’t auto-generate them, there’s no transcript to fetch. This is uncommon for videos with spoken audio.

What can I do with the transcript?

Search it, quote it, translate it, or feed it to an AI to summarize. With the Clarion extension you can also get a credibility verdict, structured notes, and spaced-repetition quizzes from the same transcript.
